My Oil Slick Sweetheart
This is the painting I have been working on for quite a while now. Sometimes you create a piece that just sings from start to finish, and you don’t encounter too many problems. Other pieces…like this one…you seem to fight with from the start.
I added, took away, changed the composition, re-did the lighting, etc. So she’s done now, and I have very happy and enthusiastically moved to my next painting. Which, fingers crossed, will be a much better behaved painting.
I’m on the etsy
Yay! Today I finally got a few prints (including the painting above) up on etsy. I’m just putting prints up for now to see how that goes. Let me know if anyone has any etsy tips, as I’m pretty new to selling stuff on etsy.
This painting was an homage to my grandmothers. I recently got married, and they were on my mind a lot. The dress in the painting is very similar to the one I wore for the wedding. The fox in the painting is a reference to my Grandmother Fox. She has 9 tails based on a Japanese myth of the 9-tailed fox being a guardian. The violets are a reference to my Grandmother Foltz, who always grew them (we called them Johnny Jump-ups) in her garden. I wanted to include this as a symbol of renewal, as these little flowers always come back year after year.
