painting for my niece
I just finished this little painting yesterday for my niece’s bedroom (she will be making her debut in April). This tiny spirit is the protector of all small beings, including my little niece. It made me happy to think of a small painting of her hanging in the baby’s nursery, she is sure to keep an eye on her then.
I also thought it would be nice to make mention here of one of my biggest artistic influences: James Christensen. I tried to find a webpage of his to link to here, but alas. I taught myself to draw in school by copying illustrations from his book, Voyage of the Basset. This guy does what I want to do, create other worlds full of mystery and magic. And boy can he draw! This painting I just finished ended up being very influenced by his work (especially the spirit).
gettin’ down to business: day 1
Today is my first Businessy-Business Day! Every Thursday, I’m forcing myself to do something to help promote my art (rather than just well…painting). So I’m trying to start a blog, so far it’s a little confusing, but luckily I’m married to a nerd-boy who will hopefully be able to help me as soon as he gets home.
In the meantime, here is a caterpillar friend:
